Born in Isfahan, Iran — the hometown of Oscar and Cannes-winning filmmaker Asghar Farhadi — I am Mohammad Kabirian, an independent filmmaker and photographer based in Paris. Shaped between Isfahan and Tehran, my artistic path is the result of a constant dialogue between two cultures, two languages, and two ways of seeing the world.
The philosophical and architectural richness of Isfahan, combined with the artistic energy of Paris, has deeply influenced my perception. This fusion defines my work — where I seek to dissolve the traditional boundaries of visual storytelling, moving between East and West, between still image and moving image.
My cinematic vision is shaped by the existential cinema of Ingmar Bergman, the rigour of Béla Tarr, the theatrical mastery of Bahram Beyzaie, the piercing realism of Asghar Farhadi, and the poetry of Abbas Kiarostami. In photography, I am deeply inspired by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Peter Lindbergh, Martin Parr, Bruce Gilden, Vivian Maier, and Elliott Erwitt. The French New Wave — Godard, Rohmer, Varda — remains a constant source of inspiration.
With over ten years of experience across Iran and France, I have created short films, documentaries, and portrait series. In 2022, I won First Prize for Theatrical Script Writing at the Aja Festival in Iran. In 2024, I worked as set photographer on the short film 'J' by Jules Zingg. In January 2025, I exhibited my series 'Daily Life in Iran' at the University of Poitiers — covered by Ouest-France. I have also worked at the Comédie-Française and the Théâtre de la Concorde in Paris. I am currently pursuing a Master's in Theatre, Performance & Societies at Université Paris 8.
My journey continues — new cities, new projects, new stories. Subscribe to my newsletter to stay updated. And whether you have a small creative idea or a large-scale project in mind, I am open to all collaborations — from the most modest to the most ambitious.
